The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs works to promote and safeguard Norway’s interests internationally. Norway’s interests are determined by such factors as its geographical location in a strategically important area, its open economy, its position as a coastal state and steward of substantial marine resources, and its extensive exports of oil and gas.

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in China

In China, the Ministry has four stations: the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Beijing; the Consulate General in Shanghai; the Consulate General in Guangzhou; and the Consulate in Hong Kong. In China, the Ministry’s mission is to further enhance and promote the relations between Norway and China, in line with the Norwegian Government’s China Strategy and annual Work Plans. The four foreign stations cover a wide range of activities, including political and business visits, political and economic reporting, promotion of economic co-operation and trade, co-operation within environmental protection, development cooperation programs and events to enhance cultural co-operation, consular work and visas. Innovation Norway and Norwegian Seafood Export Council are represented through the Embassy’s commercial section.

The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Beijing has the administrative responsibility for the following provinces: Beijing, Chongqing, Gansu, Guizhou, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Henan, Hunan, Hubei, Jilin, Liaoning, Ningxia, Qinghai, Shaanxi, Shandong, Shanxi, Sichuan, Xizang, Xinjiang, Yunnan, Tianjin, Inner Mongolia. The Ambassador in Beijing is also accredited to Mongolia.

The Consulate General in Shanghai has the administrative responsibility for the following provinces: Shanghai, Anhui, Jiangsu, Jiangxi and Zhejiang.

The Consulate General in Guangzhou has the administrative responsibility for the following provinces: Guangdong, Fujian, Guangxi and Hainan.

The Consulate in Hong Kong has the administrative responsibility for Hong Kong and Macau.
