Recently, the General Office of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment issued the Notice on Printing and Distributing the Environmental Benchmark Work Plan (2023-2025). The Plan puts forward five work requirements: accelerating the research of surface water environmental benchmarks, strengthening the research of marine environmental benchmarks, promoting the research of atmospheric environmental benchmarks, promoting the research of soil environmental benchmarks, and strengthening the construction of basic support capacity.

The plan is divided into three parts: general requirements, work content and implementation requirements. It is clear that the benchmark research in the fields of surface water, ocean, atmosphere and soil will be promoted in an orderly manner, and breakthroughs in key technologies and methods will be made to form a number of technical guidelines, benchmark documents and model calculation software.
