China Energy Big data Report (2023)
In 2022, China will focus on enhancing its energy production guarantee capacity, fully leveraging the role of coal as a “ballast”, continuously enhancing oil and gas exploration and development efforts, and vigorously developing a diversified clean power supply system, effectively ensuring stable economic and social development and sustained growth in people’s energy needs. The growth rate of raw coal, crude oil, natural gas, and electricity production has all achieved varying degrees of growth.
2022 Energy Production
The total production of Primary energy was 4.66 billion tons of standard coal, up 9.2% year on year.
The production of raw coal reached 4.56 billion tons, a year-on-year increase of 10.5%.
The crude oil production reached 204.722 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 2.9%.
The production of natural gas reached 220.11 billion cubic meters, a year-on-year increase of 6.0%.
The power generation reached 8848.71 billion kilowatt hours, a year-on-year increase of 3.7%.
In 2022, significant results were achieved in ensuring energy supply. In response to the fluctuations in the international energy market, we will strengthen the domestic coal supply guarantee and increase oil and gas storage and production, coordinate the supply of coal, electricity, oil and gas transportation, effectively respond to severe challenges such as extreme high temperatures and droughts in China, and provide better protection for energy consumption in daily life and production.
As of the end of 2022, the national installed power generation capacity was 2564.05 million kilowatts, an increase of 7.8% compared to the end of the previous year.
The installed capacity of thermal power is 1332.39 million kilowatts, an increase of 2.7%;
The installed capacity of hydropower is 413.5 million kilowatts, an increase of 5.8%;
The installed capacity of nuclear power is 55.53 million kilowatts, an increase of 4.3%;
The installed capacity of grid connected wind power is 36.544 million kilowatts, an increase of 11.2%;
The installed capacity of grid connected solar power generation is 392.61 million kilowatts, an increase of 28.1%.
In 2022, clean energy generation such as hydropower, nuclear power, wind power, and solar power generated 2959.9 billion kilowatt hours, an increase of 8.5% compared to the previous year.
In 2022, China’s energy product imports have all experienced varying degrees of decline. In 2022, China imported 508.28 million tons of crude oil, a year-on-year decrease of 0.9%; Imported natural gas reached 109.25 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 9.9%. Imported coal reached 29.3.2 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 9.2%.
