Invitation to attend the Sino-Europe Offshore Wind Workshop
On behalf of the Royal Norwegian Embassy, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the British Embassy and Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark, we cordially invite you to attend the Sino-Europe Offshore Wind Workshop.
The workshop, to be held on Friday 15th October in Beijing prior to the China Wind Power (CWP) summit, will be co-hosted by the four embassies, aiming to share the latest expertise and experiences from the European and Chinese offshore wind markets in driving the growth of the sector.
According to the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) 2020 was a record year for the wind power industry, with 93 GW of new capacity installed globally. This included commissioning of 6.1 GW of offshore wind, the second-best year in history. China was responsible for installing half of this capacity, and steady growth was also recorded in Europe as new installations came online. China is expected to become the world’s largest market for offshore wind in the next few years, with ambitious plans across multiple provinces to accelerate capacity installations.
There are however many challenges to be overcome by the sector, including driving down the costs of technology to make offshore wind competitive with conventional sources of energy generation, and managing the future shift to deeper, farther from shore installations. In both the European and Chinese markets there are impressive goals for offshore wind sector expansion, and through closer collaboration we can strive to meet these goals together. With countries across the world setting out ambitious targets for growth of the sector over the next decade, this is an opportune moment to promote closer policy and industry collaboration to ensure that future growth is both sustainable and economical.
This workshop will aim to share the latest expertise and experiences from the European and Chinese offshore wind markets in driving the growth of offshore wind, with sessions focusing on the North Sea Outlook for Offshore Wind, a series of presentations from innovative European offshore wind companies and finally an outlook of the Chinese offshore wind industry and market outlook. Further background including agenda is included below for your reference.
Your attendance and participation at the workshop will help to further promote the importance of Sino-Europe collaboration on offshore wind.
We hope that you will join us for this important event.
