China’s first electricity-carbon eco map initiated in Xiamen
On June 3, a conference regarding the service of the electricity-carbon eco map was held in Xiamen, Fujian.
State Grid Fujian Electric Power Company, State Grid Xiamen Electric Power Supply Company, and State Grid Yingda Carbon Asset Management Company together, announced the first electricity-carbon eco map.
Through large data fusion of coal, oil, gas, heat, and other kinds of energy consumption data, it can display the panorama and dynamic of carbon emissions from regions, industries, and enterprises in terms of electricity, and effectively serve the government’s decision-making and policy and the transformation of social energy use.
Xiamen is one of the first pilot low-carbon cities in China and has a good foundation for green development in taking the lead in reaching the carbon emission peak.
Since May this year, 3 companies have been working closely together to develop this map, and so far, the map has covered 1811 enterprises in Xiamen.
The carbon intensity of electricity is the core index of the map, that is, a measure of how much CO2 emissions are produced per kilowatt-hour of electricity consumed. This index can measure the electrification degree of energy users. It can not only guide the energy consumption side to improve electrification and energy-saving efficiency but also be used to predict the carbon emissions of industries or enterprises in the future.
The application of the electricity-carbon eco map will guide both policymaking and services to the enterprises.
Xiamen Pacific Container MFG., Co., Ltd. was benefited from this map. In mid-May, the company launched a 3.91-megawatt photovoltaic project, which is used for daily electricity for light, according to a customized energy consumption upgrade plan from State Grid Xiamen Electric Power Supply Company. The project is expected to generate 4.69 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 4,678 tons annually.
At present, State Grid Xiamen Electric Power Supply Company is promoting the linkage between local government and enterprises and forming a more accurate and comprehensive urban energy database with the mode of co-construction, co-governance, and sharing.
