Chinese MEE cancels the mandatory requirement of water content of sludge in sewage treatment plants
“The Decision on Abolishing or Amending Some Ecological and Environmental Regulations and Normative Documents” was deliberated and adopted at the ministerial meeting of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment on December 25, 2020 and it has come into force right after the promulgation. According to this document, several regulations and normative documents has been amended and abolished.
“The Circular on the Strengthening the Work of Prevention and Control of Pollution by Sludge from Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants” ( No.157) is one of the normative documents that have been abolished. In this document, it once stipulated the sludge storage requirement: for sludge to be sent out of the wastewater treatment plant for storage (neither for disposal nor treatment), Its water content must be lower than 50 percent.
